One of the major UK supermarket chains could be established in Jersey within the next three years.
Jersey Royal Potato Marketing is in talks with a major UK supermarket with a view to selling a packing site on the island. MD Tom Binet refused to reveal which chain he had spoken to, but said it was one of the big four.
He also confirmed that it was not Morrisons as it sold its store on the island, which it inherited from Safeway, last year. The favourite would be Tesco as it has been at the centre of rumours linking it with a move to the island for a number of years.
A representative of the island’s parliament, States of Jersey, said that this was only one of several sites on the island being touted for potential supermarket developments.
