Hundreds of jobs are at risk in north Wales as Unilever begins a major cull of its workforce. The food giant is in talks about outsourcing the IT work carried out at its office at Ewloe, Flintshire, to a contractor. The move follows Unilever's announcement earlier this month that it would shed 20,000 jobs from its global operations - the majority of them in Europe - over the next three to four years. Ewloe currently employs about 400 people. An ­employee told a local newspaper the vast majority of the IT staff - possibly as many as 90% - could be laid off. A Unilever spokesman confirmed the company was working with Hewlett-Packard to look at outsourcing the IT work. The review would take three months and would examine a number of options, he added.
