Unitas’ procurement scheme has created savings worth £3m for its members since being introduced in March this year, according to the company.
Members were able to access centrally negotiated rates on non-resale purchases including energy, stationery, packaging and payment solutions under the scheme.
New member Direct Line Supplies reported savings in excess of £18,000 within three weeks of joining the group in August this year.
“The savings have been incredible, particularly on our payment solutions and fuel cards, and we’re now placing orders for stationery,” said DLS general manager Sonal Sarvaiya.
The scheme was launched by Unitas in March in partnership with procurement and carbon specialist Auditel. It offers members discounted rates across various regular expenses.
The scheme works with each wholesaler individually to focus on bespoke solutions, according to Auditel senior consultant Sean Connaughton.
“For example, a Unitas member was using cash in transit services for five collections per week, [but] by working with them and analysing their requirements, we pointed them towards installing Smart Safe technology, where each day they would deposit cash which would be immediately credited to their account but collected weekly, removing the cost of daily cash-in-transit collections,” said Connaughton.
Unitas Wholesale MD John Kinney said: “At a time when margins are under pressure and wholesalers are having to manage cost increases, the incredible savings this service has achieved across the group have never been more welcome. This is a really powerful benefit for members as we go into the new year.”
