Jaffa Cakes owner United Biscuits is restructuring its UK operations - freeing up the snacks business for a potential sale.
UB announced the reorganisation of the group to staff on Wednesday this week, informing them that it would be separating the existing UK structure into separate biscuits and snacks business units.
In a note seen by The Grocer, it said: “UB believes that this will provide a more focussed approach to the category opportunities that exist in both biscuits and snacks. It will provide improved service, innovation and category development.”
The company stressed there would be no redundancies from the reorganisation and that there will be some additional roles created across the business to support its objectives.
Today, a UB spokeswoman said it had identified improvements to the current organisation and had started a process with the UK teams to implement these changes.
Earlier this month, UB owners Blackstone and PAI Partners were reported to have hired Credit Suisse to consider options for its snacks business and a potential £500m sale of the unit.
United Biscuits employs about 8,300 people across 11 locations in the UK. It is headed up by Benoit Testard who was appointed group CEO in February 2011, from his role as MD of UB UK. A year on, the company is still on the lookout for a new UK MD.
