The Co-operative Group has denied claims that the plans to create a unified brand for the Co-operative Movement could add to customer confusion in its Dividend cards scheme.
Different societies run their own schemes separately and a customer cannot use one society’s card elsewhere.
Concerns have been raised by some societies that if and when the pilot of the new The Co-operative branding is extended to all 42 societies, customers will not understand that the separate Dividend cards will still apply. A Co-operative Group spokesman said: “This is just a pilot, but we are aware of the issue and will address it.”
Meanwhile, The Co-operative
Group has completed the statutory 90-day consultation period about plans to cut 600 head office jobs.
However, no decisions have yet been made about the £50m cost-cutting and efficiency drive that the Co-op is carrying out to counter falling sales. A spokesman said: “A number of workstreams have been set up. The whole process will take two years.” Redundancies will be from all levels of management and across all functions, from finance to marketing.
