Waitrose is to move out of its distribution centre in Bardon, Leicestershire, putting 420 jobs at risk.

The retailer has decided not to renew its contract with the Kuehne + Nagel-run centre when it comes to an end in September, claiming that recent expansion of its distribution capacity meant it was no longer needed.

“We’ve added space and capacity at Aylesford and Milton Keynes, and opened a chilled warehouse in Bracknell,” a spokeswoman said.
