Waitrose is launching gluten-free pasta in packaging made in part from food waste – in own label a first for a UK supermarket, it claims.
The two new Love Life fusilli come in two variants: one made entirely from green peas, the other from red lentils. Both come in a recyclable box that comprises 15% peas and pulses left over from making the products.
The environmentally friendly format reduces the use of virgin tree pulp and removes the need for an inner sleeve because the box can be in direct contact with the pasta
Available from 1 August, the latest SKUs in the Love Life range are high in protein, and each 175g serving counts as one of your 5 a day (£1.99/250g).
“We’re always looking at ways to cut down on our packaging, use more sustainable materials and reduce our food waste, so we’re pleased to be working towards all three of these targets with this new launch,” said Waitrose pasta buyer Jo Heywood.
