One of the country’s leading horticultural research institutes is to close in a move that will deal a major blow to future UK R&D.
The University of Warwick confirmed last week it would be closing its 120 acre research site in Kirton in Lincolnshire after it received insufficient funding and had lost over £1m over the past four years.
Kirton operates as part of the Warwick HRI horticultural institute, which will continue to operate as normal. The Kirton site was expected to cease operating in early 2009, and the University was looking for alternative uses for the facility in the meantime, a University statement said.
