Wensleydale Creamery's traditional Cheshire cheese won the NatWest Cup for the supreme champion cheese at the Nantwich International Cheese Show this week. Wensleydale Creamery md David Hartley said: "The company produces other regional cheeses and winning the Supreme Champion for our traditional Cheshire confirms our pedigree in quality cheese making." The reserve award went to Davidstow Creamery. Frico's Bradbury & Son won the HT Webb Trophy for supreme continental cheese. Meanwhile, Morrisons won the Curwood Trophy for best retailer brand cheese for its Ribble Dale Goats Cheese. Morrisons trading manager Vanessa Johnson said: "We're very pleased at receiving this award so soon after introducing the product to our stores three months ago." All the major multiples picked up retail brand awards apart from Tesco. Sainsbury won three first prizes in the category. Other prizes in the same sector went to Iceland for best hard territorial and M&S for best continental speciality cheese. Mark Beavon, director of Joseph Heler Cheese, one of the show's sponsors, said there were 1,800 award entrants and 35 trade stands. {{NEWS }}
