I really rate George because it is always ahead of the pack or quickest to react. It has got everything so spot on for the past few seasons. When Kylie was seen in her green chiffon dress last year, George had it in store immediately.
More recently, autumn 2006 was the season of the short swing jacket and the best, for both quality and fashionability, were those seen at George. For womenswear fashion, George ticks all the boxes.
It is also taking on the big players with its kidswear, especially the back-to-school range.
The campaigns on TV made it stand out and getting our national shopaholic Coleen McLoughlin on board was a brilliant coup.
As for Tesco, Florence & Fred has started to take on the fashion challenge and its fabrics have become so much more about quality rather than quantity.
As for Tu, I always thought it ran behind the others in the style stakes, but I think the autumn 06 collection demonstrated a real turnaround. There were several pieces, including a grey jersey dress with soft, flowing bubble hem, that blew away my preconceptions.
I have not seen the Tu spring 07 collection, but if the design team stay on track then the George design team should be looking over their collective shoulder.
