Aldi warns of basket price hike
ESSEN, GERMANY: Aldi has taken out newspaper ads in the Netherlands warning it has to increase prices for a large number of products in order to react to “extreme price movements in the market”. It said an average grocery basket would become 2%-3% more expensive. “Our customers have a right to know why price increases are necessary,” said a spokesperson. Aldi took similar steps in Germany last month.
