Young’s Seafood is to open a ‘pop-up’ fish and chip shop in Cambridge to promote its responsible sourcing credentials.
The seafood giant has teamed up with Cambridgeshire fish and chip shop restaurateurs Mark and Peter Petrou to open the Young’s Fish & Chip Shop on Burleigh Street on 13 January.
It will stock species such as hake, sourced from a Marine Stewardship Council-certified fishery, and ‘popcorn scampi’ for children, and will encourage customers to eat a wider variety of fish.
As well as selling fish and chips, the shop will provide information to children on various seafood species. A series of ‘School of Fish’ educational demonstrations run by the Petrou brothers will take place in the spring.
“Launching a pop-up Young’s Fish and Chip Shop is an exciting new way for us to serve up the responsibly sourced fish we supply,” said Simon Clarke, business unit director at Young’s Seafood Limited.
The shop’s fish will be sourced in line with Young’s Fish for Life responsible sourcing programme and its 10 Principles for Responsible Sourcing along with fish from fisheries that have been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council.
“Working with Young’s has finally given us access to the very best quality and species of sustainable fish in the ocean,” the Petrou brothers added in a statement.
The Petrou brothers won the 2006 Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year.
