Former Birds Eye Wall’s sales director Tony Pearce retired from his last public office on Wednesday when he stood down as chairman of the trustees of the grocery charity Caravan. He was replaced by
Unilever Bestfoods sales director Tony Smith.
During a 35-year career in the business Pearce contributed a lot of his own time to developing food industry initiatives and charity work. He helped to launch ECR UK, was chairman of IGD and president and chairman of the National Grocers’ Benevolent Fund - Caravan’s forerunner - and of the Confectioners’ Benevolent Fund. In 2000 he won The Grocer Cup for his contribution to the industry. He retired from Birds Eye Wall’s in 2002.
