Morrisons is giving away 50,000 sprigs of mistletoe to customers from today (12 December) in celebration of the festive period.
Morrisons Community Champions adorned in ‘Merry Kissmas’ sashes will be handing out the complimentary mistletoe in all 492 stores. To celebrate the launch of the activity, Morrisons has installed a giant sprig of mistletoe made up of 500 of the festive plants in its Colindale branch.
The mistletoe giveaway was launched after research of 1,005 consumers by the supermarket revealed that 71% of under 35s admitted they had never experienced a kiss under the mistletoe.
A quarter (25%) of Brits also said all they wanted for Christmas this year was a kiss from a loved one.
“Kissing under the mistletoe is one of the oldest Christmas traditions and we want to do our bit to keep it alive,” said Morrisons flower buyer Donna Heywood.
“The mistletoe giveaway was extremely popular last year so we hope to get even more customers kissing this Christmas. And you never know, true love could just be an aisle away.”
The mistletoe giveaway is the latest Christmas initiative from Morrisons. Last week the supermarket put traditional carols back on the in-store playlist for the first time in 15 years to run alongside festive pop tunes.
