What was your first-ever job? I worked as a quality controller for the summer in the factory that made Red Stripe beer, in Jamaica. I did quite a lot of taste testing!
What was your worst job interview? My interview with Grace! I was still in holiday mode after graduating from university at the age of 22. The interviewer had amazing green eyes, which I had never seen before, and I was extremely distracted.
What was the first music single you bought? Dizzy by Tommy Roe.
How do you describe your job to your mates? I focus on developing and selling Caribbean food that is very easy to prepare and very hard to spoil if you can't cook.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Seeing people learning to work together in a team and getting really good business results from it.
What is the least rewarding part? Seeing a product fail to achieve its potential after people have invested time and effort into it.
What is your motto in life? Do one thing better every day.
What's your nickname? My family have always called me Mikey.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? An annual cruise with no particular destination.
What's your favourite movie and why? Robin Hood Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner. The film shows commitment, sacrifice and love, all attributes that are needed in business.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? Thinking I had been short-changed when buying some mangoes in a market in Thailand. I stood out like a sore thumb and caused quite a scene until I realised I was wrong!
Do you have any phobias? I stay away from snakes.
Which celebrity would you pick to join your staff? Lee Evans. Lee's humour and personality would make any workplace more enjoyable.
If you could change one thing in the grocery industry what would it be? How quickly food prices are rising and the effect it is having on a global scale with customers and consumers.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? A 300-watt Bose music system and my CD collection. I could listen to my music as loud as I like without having any one telling me "turn that down!"
What animal best reflects your personality and why? A bird, as I like to be able to get to new places whenever I want.
