From tropical twists to Christmas pudding crisps, you can expect plenty of fun and pageantry from Tesco this Christmas. Here’s our pick of what will be on shelves
Tesco has not yet revealed all prices for its Christmas range.
Main courses
Tesco Finest Surf & Turf
Serving up surf and turf on Christmas day is more common in Australia, but Tesco are hoping it will catch on in the UK with this dish. Extra large prawns, scallops, samphire and smoked salmon accompany an impressive, matured tomahawk steak.
Wicked Kitchen Maple & Bourbon No-Gammon Joint
Rsp: £5/385g
Vegans and veggies no longer have to miss out on the classic Boxing Day ham. This alternative is made from a wheat, pea and soya protein base and is flavoured with maple and bourbon.
Tesco Finest Sirloin Steak with Cheese Fondue
Rsp: £15/624g
A classic combination, this matured sirloin steak comes with an oozy ‘Best of British Cheese’ fondue which is topped with a pecorino and rosemary crumb.
Starters and sides
Tesco Finest Scallops with Bacon and Risotto
Theatrically served in a half-shell, Tesco says these scallops are slightly sweet, making them the perfect pair for pair a rich risotto and crisp, salty bacon topping.
Tesco Finest Candy Cane Pigs in Blankets with Honey & Rosemary
Rsp: £3/248g
Thankfully, these pigs in blankets are merely shaped like candy canes and aren’t actually mint flavour. Instead they’re blended with honey, rosemary and wild sage.
Tesco Finest Scottish Salmon, Prawn and Avocado Starters
Rsp: £5/320g
A table-ready twist on a prawn cocktail, these starters combine layers of avocado, salmon mousse, chopped smoked salmon and king prawns.
Wicked Kitchen Jewelled Stuffing Balls
Vegan stuffing made easy, these balls are made from a pea protein base and the “jewelled” element is provided by apricots and cranberries.
Party food
Tesco Plant Chef No Prawn Tempura
Prawns get the boot in this re-imagined party platter classic. Instead, jackfruit and king oyster mushroom are enveloped in a gluten-free tempura batter.
Tesco Finest Lobster Mac & Cheese Pots
Lobster is served up in individual pots with mature Cheddar cheese, topped with parsley. They’re pictured here alongside Tesco Finest Coquilles St Jacques.
Tesco Finest Christmas Pudding Crisps
In a move that surely no-one asked for, Tesco has covered these hand cooked crisps in “the sweet flavours of Christmas pudding.” A conversation starter at even the dullest of Christmas parties, if nothing else.
Tesco Blonde Chocolate Popcorn
A very hot flavour at the moment, blonde chocolate is popping up everywhere. Including this new popcorn which Tesco says is “bursting with flavour”.
Desserts and confectionery
Tesco Finest Espresso Martini Dessert
Rsp: £9/800g
One of two boozy trifle-esque puds from the retailer this year. The espresso martini variant combines vanilla sponge, light mousse and coffee chocolate sauce and is topped with chocolate coated coffee beans. There’s also a Peach Bellini Trifle, which features a peach curd and white chocolate decorations.
Tesco Finest Salted Caramel & Chocolate Millionaire Choux Wreath
Rsp: £6.50/472g
This dessert takes the best of profiteroles and presents them in the most Christmassy of shapes - a wreath. Golden choux pastry is filled with millionaire shortbread sauce, milk chocolate drizzle and grated chocolate.
Tesco Finest Chocolate Winter Village Cake
Rsp: £15/344g
The “showstopper” of Tesco’s new desserts. This chocolate cake combines layers of sponge with chocolate ganache and buttercream, topped off with an edible chocolate winter village complete with dark chocolate trees.
