Harrods has opened a food hall focusing on essential groceries as part of a major refurbishment.
Its Fresh Market Hall offers everyday food “done exceptionally well”, with a focus on seasonal items, convenience and chef-made dishes. It has also been inspired by London’s varied food scene, showcasing fresh produce, meat, fish and bakery items.
The hall includes a newly designed deli with a range of classic and modern dishes, all of which are freshly prepared throughout the day by 150 in-house chefs.
Harrods has partnered with food brands Pasta Evangelists and Karma for counters. Fresh Italian-inspired and classic Indian dishes are served warm to take away, or prepared to take home and cook.
The fruit & vegetables section focuses on fresh and seasonable produce from the UK and abroad, and comes alongside a ‘Vegetable Butchery’ unique to Harrods, which allows customers to choose fruit & veg to create dishes to take home. Its butcher and fishmonger counters offer filleting, hand-carving and seasoning services.
These additions follow the installation of a rotisserie in November 2017, as part of Harrods’ two-year regeneration project, the Taste Revolution. Further renovations are due next year.
“It’s an exciting time to join Harrods and continue the Taste Revolution into its next phase,” said Harrods director of food and home, Chris Dee. “Harrods has always been a leader in the world of fine food. The launch of the Fresh Market Hall celebrates our unrivalled access to the world’s finest suppliers, as well as the skills of our talented in-house chefs who prepare our new revitalised Deli range each day for our discerning customers.”
Harrods executive chef Andy Cook added: “Opening the Fresh Market Hall will allow us to bring my team of 150 in-house chefs to the forefront, servicing our foodie customers directly and introducing the chefs’ brand new creations to the Harrods Deli counter.”
