Baubles worth £1, £2 or £5 are scanned at the checkout and can be placed on the ’giving trees’

Morrisons is installing Christmas ‘giving trees’ in its stores as a way of supporting local food banks and community groups.

From today shoppers can pick up a bauble in all stores worth £1, £2 or £5. These are scanned at the checkout and can be placed on the tree.

Morrisons is aiming to raise over £500,000 via the campaign, which will run until Christmas Eve. It has donated more than £12m to groups across the UK since the start of the pandemic.

The retailer will also continue to sell its ‘Pick Up Packs’ for food banks and is bringing back its gift donation stations where customers can donate new gifts. Donated items are passed on to local good causes and charities.

“Christmas can be a challenging time and food banks are a lifeline for many people in the UK,” said Morrisons community director Rebecca Singleton.

“We want to make it easier for our customers to donate in whatever way they can to help those in their local community get the items they need. The giving tree will give customers a unique and festive way to support local food banks and community groups.”
