Morrisons in Cwmbran is this week’s winner, in a low-scoring week, with 71 points. The “relatively new” store had a “really impressive” fresh aisle with a “marketplace” feel. It scored well on checkout thanks to the assistant who was “friendly and warm” and “quick”, with top marks for its “well signed” car park, but shop floor service underwhelmed.
Tesco in Kilmarnock came a close second. A “pleasant shopping experience”, the store was “busy”, “very clean and new”. Our shopper noted the “neatly stacked and full” shelves and would “definitely return”. There was only one unavailable item but service at checkout “wasn’t very friendly” and the car park was strewn with trolleys.
Asda in Telford was “impressive” but somewhat “confusing”, our shopper wishing it had a “more intuitive” layout. Availability was poor, but staff were “great” and it was “well equipped”.
Sainsbury’s in Dewsbury suffered from low stock levels, with eight items unavailable. Our shopper was “not impressed at all”. The store was also “old and not very attractive” and appeared “a bit tired and sad”. The shop floor service was “great”, though, with staff “the only positive”.
Waitrose on Holloway Road, London was “difficult to navigate” and despite restocking taking place there were “a few empty sections” without any produce at all. Our shopper found that restocking at this busy time caused “congestion”. It was “often difficult to locate staff” and not all of them were wearing uniform and/or name badges. This led to a lengthy 90-minute shop.
