It was customer service that won it this week. Why are you good? We’re a friendly shop with staff who are always willing to go the extra mile to make sure our customers are happy. We went through the HOT training programme about a year ago and that has worked really well.

What will the store’s forthcoming refurbishment mean? We are going to get the Store of the Future format and our staff are very excited. We’ll be getting new areas such as the salad bar and hot chicken counter, but the main thing will be the fresh fixture. The vapour spray and ice really give it the wow factor.

Can you get all of this into a smaller store like yours? We are adding a further 2,135 sq of space to the store. But it won’t be the full Store of the Future but a concept to suit our size. There will also be very little disruption to shoppers - the store will only be closed for one day.

There have been a lot of big events in the past few weeks. How has trading been? Really good. The jubilee weekend proved very strong in terms of sales, as was the weekend before when the weather was so hot. Now this week we have seen a pick-up again with the football kicking off. Of course, there is the Olympics to come…

What has been selling well recently? Our beer offers have been proving very popular but our new own label ranges are also doing really well. The M Bistro and M Kitchen ranges are doing great especially the pizzas. The new packaging is great and the quality has definitely improved.

There has been a big advertising campaign for M Savers recently. Has that had an impact? Yes, the Savers range is doing really well. We tend to sell more of the premium ranges than the value lines but M Savers is definitely growing. Again, the packaging is just brilliant. I think it has taken away some of the embarrassment some customers felt about buying the old Morrisons Value range.
