How did your team react when you told them the store had won? They were delighted. We had a team huddle this morning and I congratulated each and every one of them. This is very much a team win. The store has been here for 17 years and many of my colleagues have been here since the beginning. It was great to see them cheering and congratulating each other.
Did your store get a boost from Andy Murray’s win?On Sunday morning we were mobbed with people stocking up on barbeque lines, party stuff and alcohol. It was much quieter in the afternoon, so everyone was definitely watching the match.
Have you benefitted from the good weather too?Even though we’re in Aberdeen we’ve been having great weather! We kept the right levels of stock and customers have been buying burgers, sausages and rolls.
Your store got full marks for shop service. Do you do anything in particular to encourage this? We focus on the customer in everything we do. We also have a Tell Sainsbury’s scheme so customers can give their feedback on the store.
What feedback have they been giving? It’s very positive, but if it isn’t we can look into what went wrong so we learn and improve.
Have there been any events at your store recently?Last week we launched the Bumper Book of Summer. It’s a terrific book which gives parents and kids ideas on what to do over the summer holidays. It has really captured customers’ imagination. We’ve been promoting it at the front of the store and some shoppers have been buying it and then returning for more for their friends.
What plans do you have over the coming months? We’ll continue to drive Brand Match and Nectar. Both are very strong at this store and many customers save up their Nectar points to buy something big at Christmas. With Brand Match we always tell customers about it rather than just handing over the voucher.
