Sainsbury’s in Bracknell wins this week with 86 points, ahead of the closest competition by 19 points. All items were in stock and “fairly easy to find”. When our shopper asked for help, staff members were able to tell her exactly where products were. The store “seemed clean and bright” and there was no queue at the till point.
Asda’s Brighton branch had a “lot of empty shelves” in the chilled area and “empty cardboard trays”, but restocking was taking place. Employees were “very helpful although difficult to find at times”. There were four unavailable items.
Morrisons in Bishopbriggs was “pleasant on arrival, with plants and flowers in the entrance” but the store layout was “confused” with a frozen aisle starting with pizza followed by ice creams then back to savoury with scampi. Employees were “excellent”, if hard to find.
Tesco in Telford was “not that busy” and lost points on car park and store standards that were “quite dated” - our shopper felt they “could do with a lick of paint”. It had four unavailable items and the checkout experience was “all very quick and efficient”.
Waitrose in Mountsorrel, Loughborough, was let down by 11 unavailable items. While some brands were in stock, they were smaller sizes than the Grocer 33-listed products. Our shopper was “frustrated” that none of the frozen items on the list was available, whereas “random” items like gyoza were stocked. However, the front of store was “attractive and inviting” and the store’s employees were “very helpful”.
