As forecast by The Grocer (September 6, p35) loyalty scheme Nectar’s first anniversary was marked with the announcement of impressive statistics. It now has 13 million accounts in the UK. In the last 13 weeks, 10 million of those accounts have been active, with 12.8 million cardholders collecting points.

Loyalty Management UK, which runs the scheme, also revealed it had signed up sports chain All:sports as a partner. CEO Rob Gierkink said Sainsbury’s customers were earning an average of 70% more points than under the Reward Card.

And he added that BP petrol volumes had risen 4% since the scheme was introduced.

“By continuing to add new sponsors in the coming year, we believe our base of collectors will become even more engaged with the scheme.”
