”Our independent nutritional testing results are exactly as we reflect on our packs,” says Little Freddie’s UK general manager Rich Keir, responding to the results of an investigation in which The Grocer revealed that some of its stage one babyfood pouches contain almost double the advertised sugar levels
Little Freddie has always been committed to choosing the very best ingredients for little ones. In practice, this has meant that our products are always developed alongside registered paediatric nutritionists, and reflective of NHS and World Health Organization guidelines.
Without exception, we have operated in strict compliance with the OHID guidelines which regulate the amount of sugar in babyfood, in fact having consulted alongside them in the progression of these voluntary regulations. We source ingredients independently, ensuring that each one meets organic baby-grade standards and quality requirements. Our processes require that we adhere to all European health regulations.
This means that every recipe we develop is tested with an accredited third-party laboratory before it leaves the factory to ensure that families can have absolute confidence in choosing to support their weaning journey.
Our independent nutritional testing results are exactly as we reflect on our packs. Everything we print and claim is based on the data reports provided by our independent laboratory, SGS. Since day one we have remained consistent in never adding any sugars or fillers to our foods, leaving the natural sweetness and flavours of the organic fruits themselves to take centre stage.

The values published in The Grocer are concerning, not least because they do not reflect what we have tested in our independent laboratories. We take our role in making babyfood very seriously, and do not underestimate the gravity of these claims. We recognise that families choose us to support their weaning journey and trust our transparency.
As we learn more about the context of the report and findings, we need to undertake an assessment to understand if any discrepancies exist and why. Our process will work alongside The Grocer to understand the Eurofins testing, as we ensure the relevant external, impartial parties are involved in a full retest of all our products to confirm the accuracy of our printed nutritional values.
