Booths is recalling three of its own-label vegetable soup mixes and its diced red and white onions due to some of them containing pieces of metal.
The recall covers its Butternut Squash & Red Onion (600g), Minestrone (535g) and Leek & Potato soup mixes (500g), Diced White Onions and Diced Red Onions (200g) with use-by dates of 26 February 2019.
The Food Standards Agency said the presence of metal in the products makes them unsafe to eat and presents a safety risk, and urged customers not to eat them.
Booths has issued in-store point of sale notices for shoppers outlining why the items have been recalled, and advising its customers to return purchases to any branch for a full refund. Its technical teams are investigating how the issue occurred, and are putting procedures in place to ensure the problem is remedied and prevented in future.
No other Booths products are known to be affected, but this follows it recalling its own-brand mince pies in November 2018 due to some of them containing pieces of plastic.
“Booths has recalled these products because there is a potential risk of metal contamination from them. All of the affected products have been removed from stock, but customers should return any affected products to store for a full refund,” a Booths spokeswoman told The Grocer. “Booths is fully investigating the matter and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
