Laura Lewis
Founder, Lushice Cocktail Sorbets, on The Spice Girls, Strictly Ballroom and freezer space
What was your first-ever job? Working in a shoe shop in Chelsea: not as glamorous as it sounds.
What was the first music single you bought? It was definitely The Spice Girls. I can’t for the life of me remember which single though - I guess it wasn’t exactly life changing!
How do you describe your job to your mates? I say I am a maker of naughty sorbets for naughty grown-ups. That tends to get me a rather warm reception!
What’s the most rewarding part of your job? It’s most rewarding to see consumers try my product for themselves.
What’s your motto in life? A motto I live (and sing) my life by is: always look on the bright side of life (just like the Monty Python song, it helps if you add a whistle).
What’s the least rewarding part? The packing and unpacking at food fairs and trade shows is not exactly fun.
What’s your nickname? I have picked up the nicknames Lu and Lozza from friends and family.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? A dream perk would be simply be time: I’d love more time to do everything; running your own business means it escapes ever so quickly.
What’s your favourite movie? Why? I love Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom because it has dancing and laughing all the way through.
What’s been the most embarrassing moment in your life? Oh no, don’t make me think through cringeworthy moments! One does spring to mind: when I was working as a waitress, I dropped a tray of Champagne glasses down some stairs - it was rather loud and theatrical. What a klutz!
Any phobias? I have a dreaded fear of flying.
If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why? I’d have to plump for Bill Bailey because, quite simply, he is the funniest man alive.
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? Well I’ll have to be selfish and say more space in the freezers! Even large supermarkets can be very limited on space, which I can never quite understand, even as a consumer.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? It would have to be my iPod.
What animal best reflects your personality? I think I’m going to have to say… a monkey.
