Ferrero has teamed up with Universal Pictures to mark the summer release of Despicable Me 3 with a special edition Kinder Surprise egg.
Rolling out from mid-May, the NPD will be available until August, featuring the movie’s characters on pack and containing a Minion figure (rsp: 92p/20g). In-store activation will kick off later this month for eight weeks “to ensure the new licence is launched in an all-star fashion”, said Kinder.
The launch, which follows partnerships with Mattel and Warner Bros for Easter Barbie and Justice League eggs, comes as Kinder’s value sales are up 23.3% to £128.4m – making it the UK’s fastest-growing grocery brand in the top 100 in percentage terms [Nielsen 52 w/e 31 December 2016].
Kinder Surprise continued to deliver incremental sales for retailers, said Levi Boorer, customer development director at Ferrero UK.
“We’re confident that this new partnership will be popular with parents looking to purchase a relevant treat for their children. The Despicable Me franchise and box office sales have totalled £4.8bn since its launch and, with over 20 million fans on Facebook, we’re confident the new film will be another hit.”
The movie will hit the UK’s big screens on 30 June.
