Aldi is promising free groceries for a year in a competition to find a ‘superfan’.

The discounter has challenged followers on Facebook to explain in 250 words why it should be them. One winner will be chosen to receive £5,000 in gift cards, split evenly over 12 months.

“Are you a middle aisle expert?” Aldi asked on Facebook yesterday. “Do you know your groovy biscuits from your malted milks? Are you on first-name basis with all the checkout staff?

“We’re searching for our biggest fan. The fan who just gets us. They will win free groceries for a year with our exclusive Superfan Card.”

Aldi said it was a way of celebrating its most loyal customer.

“We know how passionate our customers are about Aldi, and we wanted to find a way to give something truly special back to Aldi’s biggest fan,” said communications director Richard Thornton.

“We can’t wait to see the creativity and enthusiasm in the entries. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we’re thrilled to be launching it.”

The competition is open to UK residents aged over 18.

Entrants are asked to email their 250-word explanation of why they should win to aldicompetitions@citypress.co.uk, including their full name, age, and location, by midnight on 31 October.

A panel of judges will “carefully review all submissions to select the final winner”, who will be contacted on or before 30 November 2024, according to Aldi.
