Lacey's Vodkashake

The liqueurs tapped a growing trend for ‘sweet, creamy soft shots’

A vodka liqueur inspired by indulgent 1950s-style ‘American diner’ milkshakes has launched in the UK.

Called Lacey’s Vodkashake, its cream liqueurs are made from vodka and natural fruit flavours, and are available in Banana and Strawberry (rsp: £12/70cl). They have rolled into 500 B&M stores.

The 15% abv vegan, gluten and allergen-free liqueurs tapped a growing trend for “sweet, creamy soft shots”, Yorkshire-based supplier Continental Wine & Food said.

Cream liqueurs were “shrugging off their traditional festive associations and becoming an all-year-round drink of choice”, said Amy Giacobbi, marketing manager at Continental Wine & Food.

Cream liqueur category leader Baileys grew sales by £13.2m on volumes up 10.0% last year, according to data compiled by NIQ for The Grocer’s Top Products survey.

Ice cream cocktails, hard milkshakes and chilled shots” were all in vouge as shoppers looked for “sweeter alternatives to traditional serves”, said Giacobbi. Lacey’s Vodkashakes had “instant shelf appeal” and were “a great addition” to chillers in the summer months, as well as over the festive period, she said.

“Additionally, with 10% of UK adults being lactose-intolerant along with consumers choosing a plant-based diet, it’s great to offer a drink that appeals to so many people,” she added.
