Mack Multiples is hoping to inject fresh innovation into the UK table grape market by importing a sweet, candy floss-flavoured grape the first in a line of new varieties it hopes to import.
Sainsbury's is the first UK retailer to stock the grapes, with 400g punnets going on sale this week, priced £3.
Although the grape will initially be available in the UK only in small volumes, Mack hopes it will ultimately become a regular fixture on shelf.
"We're looking at long-term plans to access this variety in greater volumes, not just from California, but also from other partners around the world," said Dan Crooks, commercial director at Mack Multiples.
Mack also plans to test demand among its customers for other varieties from its US supplier Grapery, including an elongated variety called Witches Fingers.
