Upmarket Italian supplier Crosta & Mollica is boosting its retail presence with a move into gelato.
The brand has created a trio of gelatos – Amarena Cherry & Mascarpone, Gianduia Hazelnut & Cocoa Cream, and Limoncello Sicilian Lemon – which are due to hit Waitrose from 20 June.
The desserts contain fresh milk and are claimed to have a lower fat content compared to northern European ice cream.
They are slow-whipped in the traditional Italian style, which the brand said achieved “the light, smooth texture that authentic artisan Italian gelato is known for”, before being finished with a swirl “reminiscent of the sculpted waves of gelato spotted in gelateria glass freezers”.
It’s the latest in a quick succession of launches from the brand. Past months alone have seen it roll out a new ‘luxury’ tiramisu, a range of frozen Tartufi, and a plant-based, non-HFSS pizza.
