Erdinger Alkoholfrei is backing Move Against Cancer’s ‘5K Your Way’ initiative for a second year.
5K Your Way (5KYW) encourages those living with and beyond cancer to meet at Parkrun events on the last Saturday of every month to “help them derive the benefits of exercise whilst socialising in a supportive environment”.
In support of the initiative, Erdinger Alkoholfrei will encourage people to complete a 5k “their way” – whether that’s running, walking, cycling, paddling, skateboarding, roller-skating, or hopping – every week for five weeks from January 2022.
Erdinger Alkoholfrei goodies will be offered as spot prizes and anyone undertaking all five 5ks will receive a customised medal from the brand.
It will encourage participants to donate £5 to the charity for every 5k completed, helping Move continue to co-ordinate 5KYW support groups at Parkrun events nationwide.
“Over the last year we have been able to expand the support we offer those living with and after cancer,” said 5KYW co-founder and oncologist Lucy Gossage.
“We know there is so much more that we can do to help people and the Erdinger Alkoholfreiday challenge will be a huge step in implementing our ambitious plans for 2022,” she added.
“Rather than talking about giving up alcohol for Dry January, we want to make more people aware of the role that exercise and alcohol-free beer can play within a balanced lifestyle”, said Erdinger Alkoholfrei country manager Peter Gowans.
The challenge would offer participants “a positive start to 2022, which they can continue as a lifestyle choice throughout the year”, he added.
It comes after the brand recently expanded its low & no offering with a grapefruit-flavoured alcohol-free beer.
Alkoholfrei Grapefruit, which is billed as a “slightly bitter” wheat beer with a “refreshingly tangy taste”, launched in September.
