Deep price cutting by Safeway on the Stamp wine range prior to Christmas forced BRL Hardy to hold back supplies.
A spokesman for Hardy said the multiple brought the price of the Stamp Chardonnay Semillon down to £2.49 in some stores.
"We had not agreed to this deal and they sold out very rapidly. When they re-ordered we would not give it to them.
"This kind of activity is bad for the brand and we cannot afford it."
The normal retail price for the wine is £4.49, which goes to £3.99 on promotion.
