Itsu has launched what it claims is the UK’s first sweet Japanese-style gyoza.
The “dessert dumplings” come frozen in Chocolate & Banana, Caramelised Apple and Sweet Berry flavours, and can be pan-fried from frozen in six minutes. They are vegan and billed as containing less than 138 calories per 41g (three dumplings) serving.
The Chocolate & Banana and Sweet Berry flavours rolled into Tesco earlier this month, with all three launching into 232 Waitrose stores and Ocado (rsp: £3.50/203g).
The dessert dumplings were “the first of their kind here in the UK, offering an exciting new after-dinner alternative for families and foodies alike”, said Itsu founder Julian Metcalfe. “Since launching as one of the first premium brands into the frozen aisle last year, we’ve brought a whole new shopper into this category. As a result, we’ve seen huge success with our dinner dumplings, and have not only established but continued to lead the gyoza market.”
The Itsu grocery brand also includes miso soups, frozen savoury gyoza, seaweed thins and noodles.
