Merchant Gourmet has added two new lines to its ready-to-eat range, including Middle Eastern ‘supergrain’ freekeh.
The pouched freekeh, produced from durum wheat, launched in Sainsbury’s this week alongside Lentil du Berry with Porcini & Thyme (both rsp: £1.99).
“Our aim is to identify interesting ingredients, source them and produce them in a way that is convenient and easy for cooks to use,” said Merchant Gourmet retail director Sanjay Davda.
High in fibre, low in carbohydrates and low GI, freekeh has a smoky aroma and nutty texture created during the roasting process when the wheat is still green.
Both lines will roll out to Tesco in January.
