A Morrisons radio advert has been banned for rushing through the terms and conditions of the deal it was promoting.
The Advertising Standards Agency today upheld a listener complaint that the final line of the ad was unintelligible because it was spoken faster than the rest of the advert.
The ad promoted a half-price offer on a Morrisons M Kitchen takeaway Tikka Masala. The final line was: “Most stores while stocks last. High price 27 Jan 17 Feb.”
The ASA disagreed with Morrisons’ claim that the end of the advert was pronounced clearly and ruled the advert could not be broadcast again in its current form.
“We noted that the line was presented more quickly than the information in the rest of the ad and considered it was delivered too quickly and that the words were difficult to hear. Because of that, we concluded that the ad was misleading,” the ASA said in a statement.
“We apologise to customers if any of the content from this advert was unclear. We’ve taken the ASA’s ruling on the speed of the speech on board and will bear this in mind for any future advertising,” a Morrisons spokesman said.
