Morrisons, Waitrose and Booths have all been named regional winners at this year’s Retail Cheese Awards.
Booths in Lytham, Morrisons in Stamford and Waitrose in Burgess Hill won in the multiple retailer section for the north, central and south regions respectively.
In the independent section, the regional winners, also announced this week, were Haworth’s The Cheese Place (north), Cheeseworks in Cheltenham (central) and Larners of Holt (south).
The awards are sponsored by Dairy Crest and The Grocer, and the overall national winners will be announced at the Cafe Royal on 2 September.
Judges evaluated criteria including the practicality and operational value of the store or counter, the range on show and staff knowledge, as well as the ability to draw new customers to the category, encourage repeat purchases and pass on knowledge of provenance or usage to shoppers.
