Morrisons and Tesco remain at the top of the retailers' chart with Morrisons pulling slightly further ahead.
Tesco is being chased by Safeway, which has moved up from number five.
The success of Safeway this week is due in part to the many off-fixture displays in stores, most particularly targeted at the confectionery section, along with a variety of boxed biscuits highlighting festive offers. The increase in Safeway has pushed both Asda and Sainsbury down by one place.
Alcoholic drinks is the only category to remain stable in the chart this week, holding its place at number one.
Confectionery moves up one place to take second position while soft drinks comes in as a new entry at number three with a large number of multibuy promotions.
The top four in the brand chart are unchanged this week in terms of positioning.
However Cadbury's at number one has increased its lead by almost six percentage points and now stands more than 13 percentage points clear of the field.
