The lamb and mutton markets may come under the political spotlight again, following a study of the sheep subsidy system commissioned by Brussels policy administrators. This probe found shortcomings in the regime, although there are not yet firm recommendations for change.
Importers in particular have told The Grocer recently they feel uneasy, as the attention of officials might be accompanied by a revival of protectionism among producers. They regard the sheepmeat markets in most of the EU as relatively stable, and in some cases quite buoyant.
