Safeway has recruited former Seagram wine director Matthew Stubbs as wine buying manager.
He will report to commercial manager for beers, wine and spirits Tom Brooks. Stubbs will be responsible for the overall direction of the Safeway wine range.
He said: "This is an exciting time for Safeway with the launch of new format stores, expansion of designated fine wine outlets and the introduction of 280 wine advisors.
"I look forward to building on the enthusiasm for wine within Safeway and strengthening our relationship with suppliers."
Stubbs was at Seagram for 14 years, focusing on its New World portfolio for the last five of those years. His move coincides with the appointment of former Oddins buyer Emma Bolger as buyer for Eastern Europe, Italy and North America.
Former Majestic wine buyer Selina Harris has also been enlisted as wine buyer for Spain, Portugal and South Africa.
