Tesco has launched a 100% fruit watermelon ice lolly as a healthy summer snack in time for Britain’s heatwave.
The “real fruit on a stick” lolly is available now from 500 Tesco stores nationwide as a four-pack (rsp: £2).
The retailer claims this is the first 100% fruit lolly to be sold on British high streets.
“Iced watermelon is the perfect accompaniment to a hot summer’s day,” said Tesco produce buying manager David Daniels. “These thirst-quenching frozen lollies, made from a real piece of fruit, are a delicious and healthy alternative to a sweet treat for all the family.”
Over the weekend, Tesco estimated that it sold around five million packs of barbecue meat, more than one million bagged salads, and five million punnets, or 600 tonnes, of strawberries thanks to the hot weather in the UK.
It follows the retailer’s move to buy an extra 500 tonnes of British strawberries last week to help growers use the bumper crop created by a warm spring.
