Energy water brand Virtue Drinks is launching a duo of Yerba Mate natural energy drinks.
The drinks are made with the yerba mate tea leaf, which is billed as being an “antioxidant powerhouse” and having essential vitamins and minerals.
They are made in the UK with sparkling water, sweetener from natural sources and “nothing artificial”, with no sugar or calories.
Two flavours – Peach and Strawberry & Lime – will hit Planet Organic, Whole Foods Market and John Lewis Food Hall this month (rsp: £1.50/250ml).
Virtue said it was working with a charity partner and would donate 1% of the price of every can sold to the conservation of plants, animals and natural communities in the rainforest.
Yerba Mate was “the traditional drink of choice in many South American countries” and had experienced “explosive success in the US”, it added.
It was “naturally high in caffeine”, and each can of Virtue Yerba Mate contained “the same amount of natural caffeine (80mg) as a cup of coffee or a can of Red Bull”.
Virtue founder Rahi Daneshmand said the drinks had “mainstream appeal” as “a better-for-you trade-up from traditional energy drinks”.
They provided “an incremental opportunity for the many who have matured from energy drinks”.
