Waitrose has begun stocking a new line of ostrich eggs.
The giant eggs, which weigh about 2kg each and are equivalent to 24 large hen eggs, went on sale two weeks ago in selected stores and will be available until August.
The eggs are produced by Clarence Court, which is selling ostrich eggs for the first time this year.
"The ostrich egg is a real showstopper, not just in terms of looks but also taste," said Waitrose egg buyer Frances Westerman.
"Our customers like experimenting with new foodie ideas. We've seen growing popularity of duck, pheasant and goose eggs. Now it's the ostrich egg's turn to take off."
