Wild Card Brewery is the latest craft brewer to turn to the crowd to raise cash to fuel rapid growth.
The London-based brewery and bar operator is seeking £250,000 from a Crowdcube campaign in return for a 7.2% stake, valuing the business at about £3.2m. As The Grocer went to press, Wild Card had raised more than £183,000 from 274 investors.
Wild Card, which started five years ago brewing 800 litres a month, is now producing more than 8,000 litres of beer a week. It plans to use the money to expand its production at the main site in Walthamstow to more than 21,000 litres, as demand currently outstrips capacity.
The company will also open a second bar at its brewery, refurbish the existing bar and launch a barrel-aged beer programme.
“We’ve been operating at capacity for some time,” co-founder William Harris said. “Opportunities are on hold until additional capacity is in place.”
Wild Card has grown turnover to almost £700,000 this year, with its core range of five beers available in the off and on-trade in London.
Harris added the brewery had ambitions for supermarket listings.
