Name: Rob Parker
Job title: Marketing manager - spirits
Company: Global Brands
Sales: Turnover £60m
HQ: Casa Hotel, Chesterfield
Number of employees: 118
What’s it like to work for your company? Liberating. The owner, Steve Perez, has an infectious entrepreneurial spirit. Creativity and dynamic thinking is encouraged and this creates a sense of personal involvement.
Why is it a good employer? We are the perfect size, big enough to offer great career opportunities and to attract a talented team, but small enough to genuinely place our people at the heart of our business.
What’s the best thing about working there? Everyone is given the freedom to excel. All employees are encouraged to share ideas and can get involved in implementing strategies to grow turnover.
Does the company offer any unusual benefits? Delicious free lunches cooked by the chefs at Casa, a cool office in Shoreditch for when we want a change of environment and there are always tickets flying around for the many great events we are involved in.
How does the company differ from its rivals? We are able to offer a genuinely personal service more synonymous with younger companies, while having the reach, ability and reputation of the biggest operators.
Is there a definable company culture? Steve is an inspirational entrepreneur and this spirit emanates throughout the business. If you’ve got a great idea for a new venture, share it and you could end up running it.
If the company were a car what would it be and why? A Lancia Stratos – it was the first car designed from scratch for rallying, so its design was not constrained by existing thinking. Global Brands works the same way..
What’s the training like and what qualifications can I earn? Our business is all about learning through experience. We support development through personal coaching and through giving our people ownership, autonomy and accountability. We have a great track record in bringing employees through to management positions.
Has the company won any awards or been recognised in the past few years as an employer? We have won numerous awards for our entrepreneurial nature, for VK and Kick Energy and for supporting our customers across our portfolio.
What’s your proudest achievement of the past 12 months? I only started this role three months ago after moving from a more corporate role. Working in such a dynamic environment was intimidating at first, but I’m proud of how my team have reacted to my vision with a continued commitment and desire to keep improving.
Are you looking for any people right now and, if so, where? We are currently looking to bring in a graduate trainee to the spirits marketing team, based in Chesterfield but with travel to the London office.
How does one go about applying for a job? Email a CV and a covering letter to alison@globalbrands.co.uk. What tips would you offer jobseekers? Know who you are, know what you want from an employer and know what you want from a role.
