Our shopper was impressed by the friendliness of staff and the cleanliness of the store. That must be music to your ears. We are absolutely over the moon and I couldn’t believe it when I got the call. I always try to keep in the know about what our local rivals are doing in terms of store layout and I think that helps us stay fresh. Delivering clutter-free stores, which many of our local competitors don’t do, is essential.
What are some of your proudest achievements since working at the store? I’m on the Asda championing women in leadership course and have been doing that for the past six months. I think it’s great that a big four supermarket cares so much about the progression of young women from the shop floor to the boardroom.
I understand the store is in the middle of a remodel. How is it progressing? Well, it is the first asset replacement since it was built and the investment comes in at £1.1m so this is definitely an exciting period. We will be getting a new produce department and new freezers and chillers that can hold more stock. On top of that, there will be a new trolley fleet and improvements to our multichannel offer, with seven vans available for deliveries.
With Halloween just around the corner, how is the store preparing? We always put on a big spread for Halloween and that won’t change this year. I think with all the new costumes and food ranges we are in for a strong year. Our staff will be getting into the spirit - no pun intended - with costumes and I think it’s great fun.
Is it too early to get festive and ask about Christmas? Well actually, we started stocking Christmas cakes and mince pies a few weeks ago and have seen some incredible buying trends. I think this is the earliest I’ve ever seen it in terms of people preparing for the big day and mince pies are flying off the shelves.
