Family-owned desserts manufacturer Davison’s is expanding its range with new ready-to-eat puddings after agreeing a £6m bank funding package.

The Armagh-based business, which specialises in hot desserts for retail and foodservice across chilled and frozen, will use the HSBC UK facility to refurbish an existing unit at its site and purchase a new automated process and packing line.

The new 50,000 sq ft factory, outside Portadown, will enable the company to begin producing ready-to-eat desserts, such as individual cheesecakes, premium trifles, glass potted and high-protein desserts, for retail customers in Ireland and Great Britain.

The upgraded site will also include a fully integrated robotic system to automate the packing process.

Davison’s said the move would help it enhance the skills of its 118 employees in automated procedures, while also paving the way for an expansion in its workforce in the forthcoming years.

MD Alan Davison added: “This is a very exciting time for Davison’s as we significantly increase our capacity to manufacture puddings and expand our offering. We’ve worked with HSBC UK for around 15 years now and it continues to provide us with excellent support and advice.”

Davison’s forecast an 80% increase in revenues – which currently sit at just more than £20m – over the next four years thanks to the new product offering. It follows a long-standing retail customer asking the business to create a range of ready-to-eat and food-to-go desserts.
