Two farm shop veterans have opened a new business on the estate of Grimsthorpe Castle, Park & Gardens in Lincolnshire.
Husband and wife duo John and Lesley Berry retired from running the Cholmeley Arms and Berry’s Farm Shop in Grantham last year. Now the couple have taken on their new store.
The Berrys were committed to supporting local farms and to stocking quality locally sourced produce, they said. They aimed to make fresh, local ingredients, including venison and game from the Grimsthorpe Estate more accessible. The shop also sells giftware from Grimsthorpe Castle.
Grimsthorpe Farm Shop is located in the courtyard of the castle before the entrance to the park, allowing free access for castle visitors and for local shoppers.
Although the castle and its gardens have now shut until next year, the shop will trade from Thursday to Saturday each week. It will be open on all castle open days during the park and gardens season in 2025.
Local produce from the farm shop will also be used by The March Hare tea trailer, which offers breakfasts, lunches and other refreshments to estate visitors. The business has developed a new menu using shop-supplied produce alongside beverages from local business Stamford Coffee.
Set in 3,000 acres of parkland, Grimsthorpe Castle features the largest collection of royal thrones and furnishings outside the Royal Palaces, including the desk at which Queen Victoria signed her coronation oath.
The castle featured in series three of Netflix hit Bridgerton as the home of Lord Hawkins.
