Goodfella’s has unveiled a trio of non-HFSS pizzas.
They are: Stonebaked Thin Sloppy Joe, Stonebaked Thin Mushroom, Spinach & Garlic, and Deep Pan Baked Spicy Chicken Sizzler.
The Sloppy Joe combined “two classic American dishes into one”, said the brand, and “plays into Goodfella’s Italian American heritage with the authentic Italian-style tomato sauce, mozzarella, spicy minced beef and diced green peppers on a stone-baked thin pizza base”.
The Mushroom, Spinach & Garlic pizza, meanwhile, was the result of “extensive qualitative and quantitative research”, it claimed, and was targeted at the growing number of shoppers seeking vegetarian options.
Lastly, the Deep Pan Chicken Sizzler pizza features Cajun marinated chicken with a spicy drizzle and roquito peppers for “an extra kick”.
More than half of Goodfella’s pre-existing range is already non-HFSS.
Goodfella’s senior brand manager Nicola Bates said the pizza brand was “committed to lead the way with innovation that continues to deliver great-tasting, quick and simple meal solutions for consumers”.
It had “carefully developed our latest recipes so we can provide retailers with HFSS-compliant options of shoppers’ favourite toppings as well as add exciting new variants that will grow the category even further”, she added.
The news makes Goodfella’s the latest in a deluge of suppliers launching healthier SKUs as the government’s HFSS clampdown looms.
Take Goodfella’s rival Dr Oetker, for instance, which last year launched an entirely non-HFSS pizza brand called The Good Baker, offering a range of pizzas containing 340-384 calories per half a pizza.
